Welcome to the Governor's cellar

THE PLACE

If you are eating out in Gozo, Maldonado Bistro is an authentic restaurant that both locals and foodie aficionados love. It has olde-worlde appeal combined with modern cuisine using the freshest of ingredients.

Maldonado Bistro is housed in the basement of a traditional Maltese townhouse situated on the periphery of the historic centre of Victoria, Gozo. The building has lasted over three centuries while serving its original purpose for the rearing of livestock.

After a considerate restoration, the property has become a venerable space retaining typical Maltese arches and stone walls. The perfect setting for a cosy atmosphere amongst friends, good food and wine.

WHAT WE BELIEVE IN

We firmly believe in our role to support and promote local farmers and producers. Therefore our priority is to put local provenance at the centre of our menus.

Also eating out is not just a basic formality. We believe it should be a memorable experience where food, friends and wine come together in harmony.

OUR KITCHEN

We have the pleasure of having a dedicated crew of chefs who love local produce and most importantly love to prepare and serve great food. We like to keep it interesting… but with respect to tradition and a touch of nostalgia.

Our guests are well taken care of by our friendly and efficient front-of-house team. They are committed in their role to be true hosts to welcome and care for you throughout your dining experience… whilst sharing some of their local tips too.

So why Maldonado?

Many people ask us why we named our bistro Maldonado. Let’s say that we believed in giving purpose to a name and we cherish that little bit of Gozitan heritage.
